The First of September has brought to mind a bit of reflection. I came upon this photo taken in Mallorca in May 2019 on my birthday. It's hard to believe how much has changed; while my firm posterior remains the same.
I promise to refrain from more cringey rhymes... for today.
In May 2019, I was living in Manhattan and spending most of my time working at a very boring, dead-end administrative job while dipping my toes into this lifestyle. I had moved to Manhattan in the fall of 2018. This was perfect vacation a brief escape from the gray Manhattan skyline into a world of sunshine and beauty. This was an exciting time of transition and celebration of resilience through difficult transitions in my personal life.
Those who have lived in NYC for any length of time will certainly relate to the challenges of carving out space for yourself here, both figuratively and literally. If I had the pleasure of getting to know you then, I want to thank you for being the highlight of my time living in Manhattan. It was a bit of a lonely time and you brightened my day. Cheers to our memories and I hope wherever you are, many good things have come your way and your fall will be filled with happiness.
Now, I'm so happy to be living in Colorado, drenched in sunshine and a short drive from some of the most beautiful views in the world. Truly, a relief. I was brought here by a big break professionally, having never visited before moving here. Although I adjusted quickly, I craved the unique connections I believe can only be found in this wonderful lifestyle. Warmth, kindness and mutual connection are joys to share with a special few. These occasions satisfy my craving for something more than the mundane 9-5. As more of a giver than a taker, I find satisfaction in fulfilling the cravings of others.
As the world tenuously becomes a tad more normal, I have had the pleasure of visiting Seattle for the first time last week. I'm flattered to have found kind friends on both coasts. I cannot wait to return to Seattle for a longer trip! This past weekend, I explored Rocky Mountain National Park. The highlights included seeing a moose calf for the first time, and some old fuzzy friends, marmots and pikas. I feel so at home here in Colorado and so grateful to the warm and wonderful people I have met here.
Currently, I am studying for a few professional certifications to elevate my "daytime" career. Wish me luck! While on the more fun side of things, I am looking forward to a trip to Miami in mid September. I can't wait for the vibrant nightlife, gorgeous beaches and seeing Wynwood again. In early November, you will find me in New York & LI. Hopefully, I will be able to enjoy some theatre, comedy, burlesque shows and good company.
In the coming months while I study, I will have more flexibility for travel. Perhaps I will join you and discover more beautiful places to create memories. Feel free to give me a break from hitting the books if you are finding yourself craving a break from your day to day.
As I muse about my travels to Mallorca and the ways life has changed since, I hope to look back on this fall as a time for exciting new challenges. Hopefully, I will also reflect on the celebration of passing my exams.
I am grateful full this exceptional life and the opportunity share experiences with you whether near or far. Maybe we know each other well or you are sort of person with a preference for connection, or you might be an admirer from far away. Whoever you may be, I appreciate you. I hope sharing more of who I am through writing will bring us closer. If you're hanging in there through the tough year we've all had, I want to congratulate you. Whether you're surviving or thriving, you made it this far. You are cared for and you will meet even more people who care for you. I wish you many fond memories to come this fall.
Sweetly Yours,
Ava
